The weekly FEC meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

As part of decisions reached, the government set up a committee to finalise the country’s exit from the organization and mandated it to come up with and present recommendations to it for ratification.

The decision follows Nigeria’s failure to meet its financial obligations. The country currently owes the organisations over $100million.

The Council also resolved that henceforth Nigeria will only belong to international organisations that are absolutely necessary.
