Nnamdi Kanu Says ESN ‘Will Implement’ Ban On Open Grazing In S/East

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Tuesday, commended the Southeast governors for banning open grazing in the region, and declared that the Eastern Security Network, which he formed, would implement the governors’ resolution.

Kanu made the commendation through his verified social media platform. He said the governors listened to the 14 days’ ultimatum given to them by the security network to end open grazing, as well as the removal of herdsmen from forests in the region.

Quoting Kanu, “Since Southeastern governors have now listened and done the right thing, we should all ‘clap’ for them. It is now up to #ESN to rigorously enforce this law the same way Hisbah Police have been dutifully enforcing the Alcohol Prohibition Laws of 12 Sharia states of core Northern Nigeria, most notably in Kano.
“It stands to reason that governors of the East do not have any law enforcement unit capable of policing killer herdsmen except #ESN. Therefore, it will be in their best interest to support the efforts of #ESN to ensure this very law they made is legally enforce.

“The best option for Fulani killer herdsmen is for them to vacate the forests and bushes of the East, head into the nearest town to rent accommodation as other ethnic groups do in Fulani-controlled core Arewa North, or face the wrath of #ESN. Any police or army unit, daft enough to provide illegal protection for these Fulani killers with cattle, will regret the day he or she joined the #zoo security services.”

THE WHISTLER reports that Southeast governors, Monday, banned open grazing and the movement of cows by foot in the region to tackle the security challenges confronting the zone.

The chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum, Engr Dave Umahi, stated this during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress in Abakaliki. He said, “The governors of the Southeast had banned not only open grazing, but also the movement of cows by foot into the Southeast. In each of the five states of the Southeast, we are managing ourselves very well. We have also stopped the movement of cows across communities. What we discussed in the Southeast with herdsmen and farmers is the method that has been in place for a long time before now.”

Gov Umahi, who called on leaders of the region to create a framework to secure lives and property of their people, also cautioned against politicizing the ban.

He said, “What our people must know is that security is not political; what is demanded of the leaders is to put up programmes that favour the people and foster national unity. There is a new dimension that is taking place in the Southeast which is very dangerous. It is when communities use the name of IPOB, the video and upload it to the social media, and say it is IPOB that is burning the houses of herdsmen.

“It is not IPOB; it is the communities that are doing this and this is very dangerous for the Igbo man. I am talking to us as leaders.”
