He spoke on the background of a video purported to be recorded at night when the fight broke out.

However, Oba Adediwura, who is the second-in-command to the Ooni of Ife told our correspondent that ‘ there is no fight between Ife and Modakeke.”

Obalufe spoke just as the spokesman for Modakeke Progressives Union, Ven. Debo Babalola, also debunked the rumour of war.

Babalola, who spoke with journalists on the telephone on Monday morning described the rumoured clash between the two communities as incorrect.

He said the video of gunshots at night which trended on Twitter was not an evidence of a fresh hostility between the two

He explained that some armed robbers invaded an area in Modakeke and fired some shots .

The shootings, he said, caused panic both in Ile Ife and Modakeke but leaders from both sides had calmed their people down.

He said, ” Some armed robbers went to Alaro area in Modakeke side and shot like three times which caused panic among Ile-Ife and Modakeke residents living around the place.

“We have to come out to calm our people down that the shooting was from armed robbers. I called the Obalufe ( the second in Command to the Ooni of Ife) and others and they confirmed that there was peace in Ile-Ife.”
