He made the announcement at the PDP Secretariat, in Benin, according to a tweet by the PDP.

Recall that Obaseki had refused his former party APC, to conduct primary elections in the state on the grounds that he wouldn’t want to endanger the lives of the people due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In a interview on Channels Television, Obaseki had maintained that the covid-19 situation in his state was alarming.

“We made it compulsory for people to wear facemask in Edo but despite all of those efforts, we’ve not been able to conquer the trend.

“It is at that critical stage where it is spreading rapidly and it will be jeopardizing the health and the safety of the citizens of Edo State to allow primary elections to be conducted in 200 locations,” the governor had said.

It is not yet known if the governor would emerge the flagbearer of the PDP at the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.

Obaseki was disqualified by the APC screening committee, over alleged certificate issues.

The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 had recommended the observance of social distancing in any gathering.
