One Dead, Two Injured In Lagos Bus-Truck Collision

A tragic road accident on Tuesday at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road in Lagos, claimed the life of one passenger, leaving two others seriously injured.

It was gathered that the accident involved a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus with registration and a fast-moving truck.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the commercial bus was recklessly attempting to outpace other vehicles from the Agric axis when it violently collided with the oncoming truck.

In the chaos, a passenger seated at the doorway of the bus was thrown onto the road and crushed by the truck’s rear tyres, resulting in an immediate fatality.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) responded swiftly at the scene.

Two other passengers—a male and a female—were rescued with serious injuries and taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent treatment.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said the remains of the deceased were handed over to his family by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, security personnel from the Owutu Police Division were on ground to support rescue efforts and manage the resulting traffic congestion.

Both the bus and the truck involved in the crash were eventually towed away to clear the road and restore vehicular movement along the busy corridor.

“The mortal remains of the deceased were later entrusted to his grieving family by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The security cover for the coordinated rescue operations by LASTMA. was further reinforced by personnel of the Owutu Police Division.

“To restore unimpeded vehicular movement across the corridor, the accidented vehicles—the commercial Mazda bus and the articulated truck—were meticulously evacuated by LASTMA officials,” Adebayo said in a statement.

Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated the need for all motorists to exercise caution, patience, and responsibility while driving, especially in high-traffic areas like Ikorodu Road.

This incident occurred barely 24 hours after six people lost their lives while nine sustained severe injuries in an accident that happened along the Lekki–Epe Expressway.

The accident involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks and a white commercial bus.

The cause of the crash was attributed to excessive speeding and reckless driving.
