Plot To Suspend Buhari’s Aide, Ojudu, From APC Thickens
The Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has survived an alleged plot to suspend him from the All Progressives Congress at the ward level.
But THE WHISTLER gathered that the forces against him are unrelenting and re-strategizing to launch another attempt to suspend him at the ward level.
Ojudu and some aggrieved chieftains of the party are challenging the ward, local government and state congresses of the state chapter in court.
Ojudu, who represented the Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the Senate during the first term of Governor Kayode Fayemi, attacked the governor last week, saying his administration had done nothing for the people of the state.
Our correspondent gathered on Friday that the Chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the APC, Paul Omotosho, asked the party executives in Ward 8, Ado Ekiti, where Ojudu registered, to commence the process of suspending the former senator.
A source from the ward told journalists that the state chairman of the party invited him and others to a meeting where he instructed them to suspend Ojudu but they declined to carry out the plan.
He said they refused to carry out the plot because there was no justifiable reason for Ojudu’s suspension and also because the Ado Ekiti born politician had been contributing to the development of the party for a long time.
The source said, ” They called us and asked us to suspend Senator Ojudu but we asked for the reason and they could not convince us. We then said no, we would not do such without any good reason.
” They can go ahead at the state level of the party to do whatever they like. But such suspension that doesn’t come from the ward level will definitely fail. As far as the APC Ward 8 in Ado is concerned, Senator Ojudu has not done anything to warrant suspension and we will not suspend him without cause.”
Another source, who confirmed the allegation said the meeting ended in a deadlock but the ward executives had been invited again for another meeting scheduled for Monday where a fresh plot to suspend Ojudu would be hatched.
When contacted on the telephone, Ojudu told journalists that he was informed that the State Working Committee had started making moves to suspend him from the party.
Ojudu said, “I have been told that they are making moves to suspend me. I was informed that they called the ward executive and started mounting pressure on them to sign my suspension. But which they refused, said.
However, the Ekiti State APC has denied the alleged moves to suspend the Presidential aide, describing it as mischievous.
The Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ekiti State, Mr Ade Ajayi, when contacted denied the reports and called on party members to disregard it.
He said, ” I heard the rumour but it is unfounded. It is not correct and I want our people to disregard the report. We will invite the ward executives to tell us where this is coming from and we will know what to do.”
