Police Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum To Jos Residents To Return ‘Looted Items’

The Plateau State Police Command on Monday issued a 48-hour ultimatum to residents of the state to return ‘looted items’ carted away over the weekend.

The order was issued in a statement signed by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Donbey Peter in Jos.

“We, therefore, wish to give the looters the grace to immediately return every looted item to the nearest local government secretariat not later than Wednesday, October 28.

“Anyone found in possession of any looted item after this date will be arrested and brought to book,” Peter said.

He added that the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, had condemned the attacks which were aimed at truncating the peace enjoyed in the state.

“The commissioner described it as an act of criminality aimed at truncating the tireless efforts of the Police and other security agencies at ensuring a peaceful Plateau,” he said.

The PRO also reminded residents that the 24-hour curfew imposed on the area was still in force, warning that anyone caught violating the order would be decisively dealt with.

Similar cases have reportedly taken place in some parts of the country as residents were captured invading warehouses and carting away COVID-19 palliatives. Some of which were meant to have been distributed to members of the public in response to the pandemic.
