Police Recover Rifle Abandoned By Fleeing Anambra Kidnappers

Police operatives in Anambra State have recovered an AK-47 rifle abandoned by fleeing kidnappers after their encounter with the operatives last Friday.

Recall that the operatives with the support of local vigilantes had encountered the kidnappers at Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state, and rescued four kidnap victims and also recovered four stolen vehicles in the process.

The hoodlums, however, escaped into the bush. The state Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, had tasked the operatives to track the fleeing kidnappers and bring them to book.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated on Monday that, “While combing the sorrounding bushes on Saturday morning, police and the local vigilante recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle with double magazines containing 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The weapon was promptly rendered safe and taken into custody for further investigation.”

Meanwhile, CP Aderemi Adeoye praised the diligence of the joint team, and promised to reward their commitment to public safety.

It was gathered that the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for proper investigation as directed by the CP.
