Over 400 senior police officers from across the country, on Thursday, appeared before the Police Service Commission (PSC) in Abuja for promotion interviews.
A total of 56 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were screened for promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), while 451 Superintendents of Police (SPs) were considered for elevation to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The interviews were presided over by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, the Commissioner representing the Judiciary, alongside DIG Bar. Taiwo Lekanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner representing the Police and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Affairs.
The candidates were subjected to a written examination. The Commission stated that henceforth, promotion examinations will be a mandatory prerequisite for advancement in the Police Force.
According to the PSC, the new system is designed to ensure that officers being promoted are mentally equipped for the demands of 21st-century policing, in line with global best practices.
The initiative is also aimed at making merit, competence, and character the foundation for career growth in the Force.

Speaking on the development, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), said the exercise reflects the Commission’s resolve to build a police force fit for a “new Nigeria” under the current administration.
“We are determined to create an efficient, effective, and dynamic Police Force—one that is fully prepared to protect lives and property and to fight crime and criminality with professionalism,” Argungu said.
He assured Nigerians that the Commission will not relent until the police force is transformed to meet modern security challenges.
