Polls: Police Deploy 7000 Personnel In Benue

The Benue state police command has deployed 7,000 policemen for the presidential and National Assembly election on Saturday.

State Commissioner of Police, Omololu Bishi, disclosed this at the command headquarters in Makurdi, after briefing batch of police mobile force ready for deployment on election duty.

Bishi, who said the police will be working with other sister agencies, reiterated the commitment of the command to ensure a hitch free election.

He said the command has since Thursday week commenced deployment of police officers including other sister security agencies to their primaries assignment particularly those in far distance local governments to ensure the protection of INEC staff, ad-hoc, polling materials and the electorates.

He therefore appeal to public and the electorates who will be voting during this rescheduled election to be law abiding and ensure a peaceful and transparent election.

In a related development, the command has a new Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine.

The statement said she takes over from the former, DSP. Moses Joel Yamu, who has been redeployed to Akwa Ibom State Command.

Until her appointment, DSP Catherine was the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) ‘D’ Division Police Station in Makurdi.

According to the statement, her posting is with immediate effect.
