Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has said that the nation’s porous border poses security risks to Nigerians.

The Ministry of Interior disclosed this via an official tweet on Friday.

Speaking at the Ministerial Strategy Retreat holding in Ilesa, Osun state, Aregbesola said that the nation’s internal security, public safety and citizens’ integrity must be in place if the various security challenges in the country are to be addressed.

“Nigerians wake up daily to gory stories of armed banditry, kidnapping for ransom, militancy, terrorism, insurgency, ethno-religious crises, farmers-herders clashes, vandalization of national assets, cultism, ritual killings, among others,” he added.

A porous border is a situation where the geographical border of a nation is not protected and as such, anyone comes in unchecked.

Rauf said that the meeting was a platform for relevant stakeholders to find out ways that would ensure the prevalence of peace and progress across the federation.
