Residents Flee As Cult Clash Leaves Two Dead In Ilesa

Two persons have been reportedly killed in a clash between two rival cult groups in Ilesa, Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered that the fight between Aiye and Eye started on Sunday evening and left one person dead.

The side which suffered defeat on Sunday was said to have mobilised and launched a reprisal on Monday.

The reprisal was said to have also left one person dead as confusion enveloped the town.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that there was heavy shooting during the Monday clash and this forced residents and shop owners to close hurriedly and flee the area.

Banks were also said to have closed to prevent hoodlums from attacking them.

Shooting was said to have been witnessed in areas such Olomilagbala; Ereguru; Itakogun; Okesa and Imo as the armed youths hunted members of rival groups.

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Yemisi Opalola, have not been successful as at the time of filing this report.

However, a police source from the Divisional Police Ijamo B’ Division, told journalists that policemen from tge station and the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad dislodged the hoodlums and restored peace to areas.

He said that shop owners and banks had reopened and policemen were on patrol to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
