Rivers: ‘Impeached’ LG Chairman Says He’s Persecuted For Refusing To Take Loan

The Chairman of the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Barr. Philip Okparaji, who was earlier on Monday impeached by majority votes on the floor of the Eleme Legislative Assembly is insisting that he remains Chairman.

Okparaji accused the lawmakers of persecuting him because of his refusal to borrow funds to finance constituency projects for the legislators.

“I Hon. Barr Philip Okparaji, remain the Executive Chairman of Eleme LGA without any distraction. I have not in any way been impeached.

“I will never be Intimidated, or cajoled to mortgage the future of my dear Eleme people to borrow any fund from financial institution to be shared as Constituency project funds to Councilors.”

“I have integrity, character and reputation built in labour unionism, legal profession, public relations practitioner, astute administrator and journalism spanning twenty two years before being elected Executive Chairman.

“I shall remain focused and determined to make a difference in politics and serve Eleme transparently and absolutely accountable,” he stated.

Meanwhile, leader of the Eleme Legislative Assembly, Hon. Ngelale Nyimeochen has warned members of the public from dealing with the impeached chairman and his deputy.

“The Assembly went ahead with the impeachment of the chairman following his refusal to respond to the noticed served on him seven days ago,” he explained.
