Dino Melaye ‘Dumps’ APC For PDP

There was a rowdy session at the National Assembly on Wednesday as Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, announced his “defection” from the All Progressives Congress to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The embattled lawmaker made the announcement on the floor of the Senate today.

The lawmaker, who attended plenary for the first time since his travails with the Police, asked Senate President Bukola Saraki to mandate the sergeant-at-arms to create a seat for him at the opposition wing of the chamber.

Melaye also said due to his state of mind and the nasty experience he has gone through in recent times, he is no longer comfortable sitting on the seat allocated to him.

He therefore sought permission to sit beside Sen. David Mark on the other side of the aisle where PDP members sit.

Immediately, he was practically carried by PDP members to the seat he chose.

The ruling of the Senate President after an extensive debate is that he could temporarily sit on the new seat until the chief whip will find him a comfortable sit on the APC side..

Melaye has been hospitalized for over two-weeks after allegedly jumping down from a police van while being taken to Kogi State by the Nigerian police.

He thanked his colleagues, members of the House of Representatives, his constituents and Nigerians for their support.

He also took out time to appreciate the leadership of the PDP for standing by him.
