Peace Corps Commandant, Akoh Slams N2bn Suit On DSS, AGF, Police

Peace Corps Commandant, Dickson Akoh, has slammed N2 billion suit on the Department of State Service (DSS), the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over his “unlawful arrest”.

The Whistler recalls how the Police, Army and DSS reportedly invaded the National Headquarters of the Corps, beating up its commandant and other officers.

Akoh had decried the cruel treatment he and his team received following their arrest by the security authorities.

He said, “We were subjected to inhuman treatment for 3 days. We did not take our bath, we did not have food to eat, including the young nursing mothers among us.”

The Corp had since filed a suit against the security authorities, demanding a sum of N2bn as compensation for the “inhuman treatment” they received while in custody.

The legal action was instituted by a former AGF and Minister of Justice, Mr. Kanu Agabi (SAN) at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Corps is further asking the court to, among other things, criminalise the sealing off of its Office Headquarters by the security agencies.

In the legal action, the Peace Corps identifies the Police IGP, National Security Adviser (NSA), DSS, DG-DSS and the AGF as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respondents, respectively.
