UCL: Arsenal Beat Bayern 2-0 to Keep Qualification Hopes Alive

Arsenal left it late to beat German Champions Bayern Munich, in a crucial Champions League tie at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Olivier Giroud struck two minutes after coming on as a substitute and Mesut Ozil scored with almost the last kick of the game to give the Gunners a 2-0 win over German opponents and kick-start their Champions League campaign.

The Germans had arrived at the Emirates Stadium as clear favourites following a new Bundesliga record of nine consecutive victories and leaders of Group F with maximum points from two European ties.

Though Bayern dominated possession, but Arsene Wenger’s men responded well to hand the German’s their first loss of the season and keep their last 16 hopes alive.

A deep free kick from Santi Cazorla caused panic in the Bayern box, where Neuer was caught off his line, flapping at the loose ball and Giroud was perfectly placed to head the ball into the back of the net.

The Gunner’s broke deep into stoppage time, with Hector Bellerin dashing down the right flank. His low cross was side-footed goal-wards by Mesut Ozil. Although Neuer pushed the ball out, the additional assistant correctly ruled Ozil’s shot had crossed the line.

The Gunners remain bottom of the table, but are level on three points with Dinamo Zagreb and three behind both Olympiakos and Bayern Munich.
Arsenal’s next Champions league tie is against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on November 4th.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s English counterpart, Chelsea FC, were held to a goalless draw at Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine.
