Super Eagles To Battle World Champions, Argentina In March

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face world cup champions, Argentina in an international friendly match in March.

The match is billed to hold at the at the Olympics Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou China.

Argentine Football Association announced on Monday that the La Albiceleste will play Nigeria and Ivory Coast during the March international window.

However, the date for the encounter will be announced at a later date by the organisers.

Jose Peseiro’s men will use the friendly match to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.

The Super Eagles failed to win their first two matches of the qualifiers with disappointing draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria have only defeated Argentina twice in eight matches, with the World Cup champions recording six wins, with five coming at FIFA world cup competitions.

The Super Eagles victories were in friendly matches, first was a 4-1 win in Abuja in 2011 and another 4-2 win in Krasnodar, Russia in 2017.

Argentina won the last meeting 2-1 at the 2018 World Cup in Russia thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Marcus Rojo.

The Olympics Sports Centre Stadium, where the friendly match will hold, has a capacity of 80, 012. It is the second largest stadium in China by seating capacity.
