Tenant Bags Eight Year Imprisonment For Raping Landlord’s Eight-Year-Old Grand Daughter

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has sentenced Isha Muhammad to seven years imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old grand daughter of his landlord.

The Information Officer of the Osun State Ministry of Justice, Opeyemi Bello, said this in a statement on Monday.

The convict was arraigned on August 3, 2020 on three counts of rape, defilement and assault contrary to the provisions of Sections 357, 218 and 360 and punishable under Sections 358, 218 of the Criminal Code Cap. 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State.

The prosecution counsel from the Ministry of Justice, Barrister Idayat AbdRahamon, called five witnesses and tendered six exhibits which were admitted in evidence by the court.

Among the exhibits tendered before the court were confessional statement of the convict, circumstantial evidence and medical report among others.

Counsel for the convict, J. O. Babalola called three witnesses including the convict and tendered three exhibits to defend the convict.

Prosecution counsel told the court that on April 19, 2020, at about 8:00pm, the victim , an 8year old girl of Ojomu compound, Igbaye, was inside the kitchen when the convict, Isah Mohammed (the victim’s grandfather’s tenant) suddenly attacked her, covered her mouth, laid her on the floor and forcefully and unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her.

She stated further that on April 20, 2020, 26 years old Araoye Bolanle (the victim’s aunt) saw house flies on the victim and this observation prompted her to carry out a thorough check on the victim.

She later discovered that there was blood and sperm stain on the victim’s private parts when she wanted to bath her.

The victim was said to have narrated how she was raped by Mohammed to her aunt.

Araoye was said to have taken the victim to Okuku Divisional Police Headquaters, where she reporter the incident. The police took the victim to the Adventist Medical Centre for medical test and treatment and the accused was arrested.

Delivering judgement in the case, Justice Olusegun Agboola found him guilty and
sentenced him accordingly. He bagged seven years for defilement and one year imprisonment for assault.

The jail terms shall be served concurrently.
