Tinubu On Lekki Shooting: Attacked Protesters Must Answer Some Questions

Former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said the #EndSARS protesters who came under attack by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday night must answer some questions in the course of investigations into the shooting incident.

Recall that scores of people were said to have been killed or injured when some soldiers allegedly stormed the Lekki toll gate and shot sporadically at the #EndSARS protesters.

Tinubu spoke on the incident when he paid a visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on Saturday.

“Those who suffered casualty during the gunshots need to answer some questions too. How are they there? How long were they there? What types of characters were they, even though we want to help, we still must extract information to help the government to understand how and when to react,” the APC leader said while addressing journalists.

Tinubu said his visit to Sanwo-Olu was to sympathize with him and the victims of the Lekki attack.

The APC leader said he also enquired from the governor if he ordered the shooting at the Lekki toll gate or not.

Tinubu said, “if he didn’t order the attack, who ordered the attack? That’s all I needed from him.”

He called for a thorough investigation into the shooting incident, saying: “First, we have to segregate the calendar – those who suffered casualty before the protests from the hands of SARS. You have to separate that from those who suffered casualty due to what happened at the toll gate.

“For those who suffered casualty from SARS, the Commission of Inquiry that is already set up will unearth that and will make their recommendations. I trust the calibre and the character of the people there, they are independent. That is one.”

Tinubu’s visit to Sanwo-Olu came after some social media users accused him of sponsoring the attack.

Some supposed business interests of the APC leader had also been destroyed in the aftermath of the shooting incident.
