U.S. Confirms First Coronavirus Death As Trump Orders Travel Restrictions To China, Italy, Iran

An American citizen has died in Washington State as a result of the Coronavirus infection.

The governor of Washington, Jay Inslee, confirmed this on Saturday.

“It is a sad day in our state as we learn that a Washingtonian has died from COVID-19,” he said.

President Donald Trump, in a press briefing said that 22 patients are currently infected with covid-19 of which one person “unfortunately died”.

Trump also added that work is being done to develop the coronavirus vaccine “quickly”.

Furthermore, the Trump administration also announced travel restrictions on Iran, Italy and China; countries the World Health Organization (WHO) identifies as having high rate of the coronavirus infection.

Vice president Mike Pence also said that the initial travel restrictions to China by Donald Trump has helped in ensuring that the coronavirus infection remains low in the U.S.

WHO had said that the menace was a global emergency, urging nations to put measures in place as well as sensitizing their citizens about the necessary guidelines required for preventing it’s spread.

The SARS-like virus which originated from Wuhan China has led to over 2000 deaths and has infected over 70,000 people across the globe.
