US Election: Mitt Romney Says Trump Planning To Overturn Results

Former United States presidential candidate, Senator Mitt Romney (Republican) has lashed out at President Donald Trump for refusing to concede defeat to President-elect Joe Biden.

Biden is projected to have won the November 3 presidential election after reportedly hitting about 306 electoral college votes, but Trump is alleging electoral fraud and has filed lawsuits to prove his claims.

But Romney, who lost the 2012 presidential election to Democratic President Barack Obama, claimed that Trump’s behavior is destabilizing US democracy and the integrity of its election.

He said that Trump was trying to influence the election outcome in his favor.

“Having failed to make even a plausible case of widespread fraud or conspiracy before any court of law, the President has now resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election. It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American President,” he tweeted on Friday.

But some hours after Romney’s tweet, Trump reacted by saying that the senator was simply regretting his defeat by Obama.

“RINO Mitt Romney… I’m sure, however, that he feels he got slaughtering by Obama ‘fair and square’,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden has frowned on Trump for not accepting defeat, adding that his actions are becoming “irresponsible”.

“What the president’s doing now … it’s going to be another incident where he will go down in history as being one of the most irresponsible presidents in American history. It’s just not within the norm at all, and there’s a question as to whether it’s even legal, “ he told reporters on Thursday.
