Varsity Student Drowns In UNIPORT Olympic Swimming Pool

A 100-level student of the Rivers State University (RSU) has reportedly drowned in the Olympic swimming pool of the University of Port Harcourt.

THE WHISTLER, learnt the student identified as Emmanuel, who until his death, was an undergraduate of Rivers State University, Department of Marine Engineering was at the swimming pool in the company of three of his friends.

It was gathered that his friends took to their heels when they observed that Emmanuel had been drowned in the pool.

Meanwhile, the corpse of Emmanuel has been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital morgue while his two other friends that fled after the incident have been arrested and detained at the Choba police station for questioning.

Spokesperson of the University of Port Harcourt, Sammy Kpenu, who confirmed the incident said the Police are carrying out investigations on the matter.

He said, “The matter is already being investigated by the Choba Division of Nigeria Police, who intervened immediately we called them.

“The two guys are in their custody; we await response and feedback from the police to ascertain what truly happened. Meanwhile his corpse has been deposited in the mortuary.”
