WAEC Withdraws Certificates Of 1993, 1994 Candidates

The West African Examinations Council has withdrawn the certificates of several candidates who sat for WAEC between 1993 and 1994 for alleged involvement in examination malpractice.

THE WHISTLER sighted a weekly bulletin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) which contained the list of candidates affected.

According to WAEC, the nature of their examination offense was impersonation.

Meanwhile, JAMB said that the discovery  has made the National Identity Number (NIN) even more fundamental so as to ensure that prospective candidates whose intentions are to engage in such vices are detected.

The board also stressed that the National Identity Management Commission’s role in capturing candidate’s data will make it difficult for students to exploit the system.

“In view of the cases listed JAMB’s partnership with NIMC is imperative. In order to have a seamless registration for the 2020 UTME, we have put machinery in place to test run the new registration regime under the joint platform of JAMB and NIMC using the NIN,” it said.
