We Did Not Arrest Magu – DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it did not arrest the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

DSS in a statement issued by its Spokesman, Peter Afunanya, made the rebuttal, following reports that the secret police arrested the Magu over allegation of corruption.

Afunanya said “MAGU, NOT ARRESTED BY DSS

“The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media.

“The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”

Corroborating the position of the DSS, the spokesman of EFCC, Dele Oyewale, said his principal was not arrested but only invited, adding that he was served the invitation to the Panel,  while on his way to the Force Headquarters,  Abuja for a meeting.

“The EFCC’s boss was neither arrested nor forced to honour the invitation.  A member of a legal team from the EFCC is also with him on the Panel.”

THE WHISTLER also learnt that Magu was only invited before a panel investigating the activities of his agency.

The panel is said to be sitting at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa.

The EFCC boss was said to have arrived at the Villa at about 1.35pm, and was ushered into the wing.

Magu was also said to have been joined at the Villa by his lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo.
