‘We Played Badly’- Tuchel Blasts Bayern Munich Players After Bremen Defeat

Bayern Munich suffered a damaging 1-0 loss to Werder Bremen on Sunday at the Allianz Arena to go seven points behind leaders, Bayer Leverkusen.

The defending champions failed to find their groove against the visitors as they fell further down the table in the title race with a game in hand.

Bayer Leverkusen earned a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday to boost their title hopes.

Surprisingly, Bremen showed more intent and purpose in the first half, denying Bayern Munich any chance to hurt them.

Justin Njinmah thought he had given the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark before his effort was ruled out by VAR for a foul on Jamal Musiala.

Former Bayern defender Mitchell Weiser delivered the sucker punch in the 59th minute with a stunning effort that beat Neuer.

Mathys Tel came close to scoring the equaliser for Bayern Munich, but his effort failed to trouble Werder Bremen’s goalkeeper.

Harry Kane also struggled for form, and he failed to direct his only effort on target as Werder Bremen held on for their first away win over Bayern Munich since 2008.

Bayer Munich coach Thomas Tuchel admitted that his side deserved to lose the game.

Tuchel said, “I don’t want to say that we train well because no one believes you anymore.

“We have to ask the players. We played inconsequentially, it was a deserved defeat.

“It clearly wasn’t enough today. For over 70 minutes I didn’t have the feeling that we were playing for the win. In the last 20 minutes, I felt that we wanted to win. We were too static in the first half, lost a lot of the ball, conceded a lot of counterattacks, and the duels were too sloppy. It was a deserved defeat because 20 minutes is simply not enough.

“I have enough experience to judge if the training is at the level that we wanted. That has been the case for a number of weeks now. The players have been doing great in training.

“But when you play for Bayern, you have to be great on Monday and Tuesday (in training), but especially on Sunday (in games). We didn’t match up to that today. We have to find a solution to that”

Tuchel and his players have the opportunity to bounce back on Wednesday when they take on Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena.
