Why Regina Daniel’s Best Friend Was Arrested – Ned Nwoko

Delta senator Ned Nwoko has explained why his estranged wife’s best friend Ann Isuegbu Anthonet was arrested rejecting claims of sexually assaulting Regina Daniels during their marriage.

A statement released to address what it described as “misleading and inflammatory narratives” by the senator’s communication team shared on the senator’s Instagram page on Monday said the arrest was the result of criminal complaints already under investigation by law enforcement authorities and not an attempt to silence or victimize any individual.

According to the statement, Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet was arrested in connection with what the team described as criminally defamatory statements allegedly made on social media.
The statement claimed that Ms. Izuegbu accused Senator Ned Nwoko of physically assaulting his estranged wife, Mrs. Laila Nwoko, and causing her to suffer a miscarriage.

“These claims are entirely false,” the communication team said. “No such incident occurred, and no miscarriage resulted from any alleged violence.”

The statement further alleged that the accusations were made without evidence and were part of what it described as “a coordinated attempt to reinforce previously circulated and unsubstantiated domestic violence allegations.”

The senator also claimed that Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet was involved in the procurement of an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during her marriage to Senator Nwoko, asserting that the incident occurred after the marriage and that “subsequent attempts to reframe the timeline” did not change what it described as the illegality of the act.

“The matter is on record and has previously been publicly referenced by Regina herself,” the statement claimed.

The communication team alleged that the abortion resulted in the termination of Senator Nwoko’s unborn child and described the circumstances as “gruesome.”

According to the statement, “Ann caused Regina to swallow a bunch of weed that left her bleeding for weeks.”

The communication team further disclosed the existence of a formal witness statement dated 29 October 2025, which it said was submitted to the Area Commander at the Maitama Police Station in Abuja.

According to the statement, the witness testimony details “repeated and ongoing activities involving Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet and others,” including allegations that she “routinely sourced, handled, and administered controlled and illegal substances” to Regina Daniels and other individuals.

The statement also claimed that identifiable suppliers, corroborative observations, and supporting details have been made available to law enforcement authorities and are currently under review.

“These matters are presently under investigation by the appropriate agencies,” the statement said.

Addressing the timing of the arrest, the senator’s team said Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet was taken into custody shortly after publishing a social media post that allegedly contained threats, derogatory remarks, and repeated defamatory accusations against both Senator Nwoko and Mrs. Laila Nwoko.

The post, according to the statement, amounted to “provocation, intimidation, and criminal defamation under applicable law.”

The communication team warned, “It is important to emphasise that this matter is not a social media dispute but a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies, and due process.”

The team also rejected claims that the arrest was an act of suppression or victimization, describing such interpretations as “false and misleading.

“The Senator and his family will continue to respect the ongoing investigation and will not engage in trial by social media,” the statement said.

“We urge the public to rely on verified facts and allow the law to take its full course,” the statement added.
