Wike Relaxes Lockdown In Rivers After Demolishing Two Hotels

A day after ordering the demolition of two hotels over violation of government directives, Rivers State governor, .Nyesome wike has announced a two- day temporary relaxation of lockdown in Obia Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Governments.

The governor had over the weekend directed the demolition of two hotels that violated the lockdown order of the state, and impounded vehicles for similar offence.

In a broadcast on Monday, Wike said the relaxation would take effect from Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13.

According to Wike, the temporary relaxation was to enable residents restock foodstuffs and other essential items.

He also directed the compulsory use of face masks during the two days.

He said markets, malls, supermarkets, banks and hospitals, among others, could open.

He said in a tweet : “Good morning good people of Rivers State, after due consideration from the inter ministerial committee on Covid19, we have decided to relax the total lockdown on Obio-Akpor and Phalga for two days from tomorrow Tuesday 12th to Thursday 14th for stock up on food items.”

However, Wike said total lock down would be fully reinstated on Thursday 14th of may, adding that violators would be punished.

In a separate tweet, Wike added, “One thing I fail to understand is why we must attach emotions when expressly exercising what the law states. A law was passed in the state and people who break the law no matter who they are must feel the penalties that the law provides. Even PDP members.”
