Alleged Looting Under Ajimobi: Makinde Wants To Divert Attention From His Failure – APC

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has said the party and the people of the state are waiting for Governor Seyi Makinde’s probe of the N96bn allegedly stolen under the government of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Makinde had last week vowed to  recover the N96bn  allegedly  looted when  Ajimobi was governor for eight years.

The governor claimed that N1bn was stolen on a monthly basis for the 96 months spent in office by Ajimobi.

But the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Oyo State, Dr  Abulazees Olatunde, in an interview with THE WHISTLER said the governor was using the allegation to divert attention of the public from the huge indebtedness into which he has plunged the state.

The APC spokesman  said the governor came up with the ‘spurious  allegation’  of N96bn after the opposition party criticised his plan to borrow N100bn.

He said the governor had failed to fullfil his electioneering promises and had resorted to blaming the previous administration for his alleged failure.

The APC publicity secretary said, “The governor is just using diversionary tactics to divert attention from the indebtedness. There is a saying that a bad workman blames his tools.

“He did not expect he would win the governorship election, if he had expected to win, he would not have promised what he can’t fulfill. He said he would make sure Oyo State no longer depend on the federal allocation again within the first six months in office.

“He has spent one year and two months in office now and we are still waiting for him to do that. He has been busy trying to divert people’s attention from his failure.

“It is not enough to keep threatening to probe, let him start the probe. We all know that nobody stole a dime in the administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi, so, he is free to.go ahead with the probe.

“He is saying that N96bn was stolen because we criticised him for seeking to borrow N100bn. We have come out to tell Makinde that we won’t allow him to put Oyo State in perpetual bondage.”

The APC spokesman said Makinde criticised Ajimobi who borrowed N91bn for the eight years he spent in office but the governor had borrowed N140bn in just 14 months.

The governor had said the anti-corruption agency of the state government would.soon visit those who stole the state’s resources.

He said, “For the period of eight years they spent in office, they were only preoccupied with how to corner N1 billion monthly into their private pockets everyday they went to the office.

“They spent 96 months in office, that means they have Oyo States N96 billion with them. We will retrieve every fund that belongs to Oyo people for the purpose of infrastructure development.

“So, tell them that the EFCC of Oyo State is coming for them. I want to assure you that we will retrieve the stolen money of the state from them and use the funds to build infrastructure.”
