Aruna Quadri Moves Up To 13th In Latest ITTF World Rankings

Nigeria’s Table Tennis star, Aruna Quadri, has moved up to 13th in the latest ITTF world rankings.

Quadri’s rise is linked to his quarterfinal finish at the WTT Star Contender Goal in India last week to move up a spot.

The 35-year-old gained enough points to retain his position as the highest ranked African Table Tennis player in the world.

The winner of the WTT Star Contender Goal, Felix Lebrun of France, moved up to sixth following a historic triumph in India.

Egypt’s Omar Assar retains his 20th position following an underwhelming showing in India, while his compatriots, Ahmed Saleh and Mohamed El-Beiali, are the third and fourth best ranked African players rated 52 and 62 respectively.

Another Nigerian, Taiwo Mati is ranked 106 while his colleague, Olajide Omotosho occupies the 109th position in the world rankings.

Aruna described his rise in the world rankings as a call to work harder.

He said, “Getting up sometimes might look easy, but staying up there needs a lot of hard work and I hope I can continue to give my best,” he said.

Quadri is the first African player to be ranked top 10 in the world.

He currently plays his club tennis at TTC RhönSprudel Maberzell Fulda, a top club in the German Bundesliga Table Tennis.
