‘Celebrate Me,’ Sound Sultan Said Before His Death

The late Nigerian Singer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, had called on Nigerians to celebrate people while they were alive.

He said this in a post made on Instagram before he died on Sunday of throat cancer.

Sound Sultan’s last Instagram post is a song by fellow Nigerian artist, Patoranking, titled ‘Celebrate Me’.

The message of the song, in Pidgin English, is that people should be celebrated while alive instead of pretending to love them when they are gone.

The lyrics of the song go in part, “Celebrate me, now when I dey alive (now when I dey alive).

“Appreciate me, now when I dey alive (now when I dey alive).

“No be say when I leave this life, you go dey fake am for my wife.

“Celebrate me, now when I dey alive (now when I dey alive).

“Appreciate me, now when I dey alive (now when I dey alive).

“No be say when I leave this life, you go dey fake am for my back.”

Sound Sultan said it was necessary to give accolades to people while they were alive instead of after death.

THE WHISTLER had reported that Sound Sultan, died at the age of 44 after battling throat cancer.

Sultan was said to be undergoing treatment for Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in the United States.

His brother, Kayode Fasasi, confirmed the shocking news in a statement on Sunday.

Another of Sultan’s musician brother, Dare Fasasi, better known as Baba Dee, also posted “inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un” on Instagram, which translate to “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return” in English.
