Coronavirus: UBA Redeems N500M Pledge To FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) said on Friday, that it had received a 500 million naira donation from the United Bank for Africa (UBA), to support efforts towards fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in Abuja.

Chief Press Secretary, FCTA, Anthony Ogunleye disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

THE WHISTLER had reported that UBA Plc, as announced Tony Elumelu, made a donation of 5 billion to Africa, out of which, 500 million was for the FCT, Abuja.

According to the statement, the Vice Chairman of UBA, Ambassador Joe Keshi,
presented the cheque of the said amount to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, in company with some representives of the bank.

Keshi said the donation was part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and served as a form of support to the FCTA towards defeating the COVID 19 pandemic.

He also called on well meaning Nigerians to join hands with the administration in stopping the SARs- like virus.

He also said N200M was for strengthening the testing capacity of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The FCT Minister lauded the bank for the donation , adding that it was the first huge donation received by the FCT Administration since the onset of COVID 19.

Bello also said that the money would go a long way in helping the administration break the chain of the Coronavirus transmission.

He stressed that FCTA was partnering with the NCDC in ensuring that the organization gets the necessary working tools.

He added that plans were underway to grade the road leading to the NCDC testing office in Gaduwa for ease of access.
