Court Frees OPC Members Facing Murder Charges In Oyo

The Chief Magistrate Court 2, Iyaganku, Ibadan, in the Oyo State capital, has ordered the release of three members of the Oodua People’s Congress who were remanded in court three months ago.

The OPC members – Awodele Adedigba, Dauda Kazeem and Hassan Ramon, and other vigilantes had on March 7 captured Iskilu Wakili, the Fulani warlord accused of terrorising the people of Ibarapa communities.

The OPC members were said to have appeared before the court on Tuesday and the magistrate, A.O Amzat discharged and acquitted them.

This was after the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions failed to prove to the court that the OPC men were guilty of the charges of arson and murder preferred against them.

The magistrate struck out the case and ordered the release of the three men after spending three months in prison custody.

The Coordinator of OPC in Oyo State, Rotimi Olumo, confirmed this to THE WHISTLER on Tuesday.

The OPC coordinator said, ” They were released today. I was planning to travel and I received a call that our members who were detained in prison since March have been released.

” Some people brought them here after they were set free and they have gone back to Ibarapa.”

He said he was happy that the truth prevailed at last.

The three men and other vigilantees had captured Wakili and handed him and two of his children to the police but the three of them were detained.

They were accused of arson and murder and the court ordered that they be remanded in prison.
