Delta Wins Sports Championship, Represents Nigeria At CAF U-15 Tournament

Delta State has emerged champion of the Basic Education School Sports Competition. It secured the national title at the tournament jointly organised by the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) and the National School Sport Federation (NSSF) in Abuja.

The victory automatically qualifies Delta to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Under-15 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Tournament.

Receiving the victorious team in Asaba, the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Samuel Mariere, attributed the success to the state’s leadership.

“This success is the grace that follows the education-loving Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. His grace precedes us, and we shall always emerge victorious as we represent Nigeria in the CAF tournament,” Mariere said.

He disclosed that Governor Oborevwori has approved the commencement of a Basic School Sports Programme, which will see schools compete from the local government level to the senatorial district level, culminating in finals in Asaba.

Mariere added that the victorious players would be handed over to the Delta State Sports Commission for proper grooming, with the programme extending beyond football to cover other sporting disciplines.
