Ebonyi Profiles Local Government Staff To Stop Insecurity

The Ebonyi State Security Council is taking a two-pronged approach to tackle a recent surge in criminal activities. In a bid to address concerns about potential insider threats, the Council has directed the profiling of all aides working with local government chairmen in the state.

The Council outlined a series of decisions to tackle insecurity in the state, including the formation of joint security patrols and the profiling of all aides working with local government chairmen.

This move comes amidst heightened insecurity following a deadly attack on a security checkpoint along the Hilltop/Egugwu Agbaja/Nwofe road. Last week’s attack claimed the lives of four police officers and two unidentified girls.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, following a state security council meeting, expressed his deep concern over the rise in insecurity. He specifically highlighted recent attacks in Hilltop Road and Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

As part of the decisions reached, the Council directed the formation of joint security patrols involving personnel from all security agencies operating within the state.

The Council also directed the profiling of all aides working with local government chairmen to address concerns about potential insider threats. This initiative aims to gather detailed information about these individuals and their roles within their respective local government areas.

According to the Ebonyi State Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike, security chiefs attending the meeting offered assurances that efforts to combat insecurity within the state would be intensified.

“The governor expressed concern over the incessant insecurity in the state with particular reference to the incidences at Hilltop Road and Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

“The Council resolved that there should be a Joint Task Force team drawn from all the Security Agencies operating in the state.”
