FG’s Implementation Of IMF Recommendation Responsible For Extreme Hardship In Nigeria-NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress has revealed additional fresh demands to cushion the hardship faced by Nigerians following the devaluation of the naira and removal of fuel subsidy

The 17 demands seen by THE WHISTLER include additional 11 new demands to the earlier agreement signed by the federal government.

It called for the stoppage of the recommendation of the International Monetary Fund, such as subsidy removal, as it is inflicting hardship on the people

NLC Demands

  • Full implementation of the welfare provisions as contained in Chapter Two of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) by making those provisions justiceable.
  • Employment generation through massive investment in agriculture and value-added manufacturing;
    Immediate subsidy to farmers to boost agricultural production and food security.
  • Open all food storage silos and enforce equitable distribution across the country.
  • Immediate fixing of abandoned factories and revival of our local production and patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods and services.
  • Make electricity and water available, affordable and accessible to all citizens.
  • Massive investment in road and rail infrastructure and social housing.
  • Put an end to further privatization and liberalization of the economy and take control of the commanding heights of the economy in line with section 16 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • Go after the oil subsidy cabal and other economic saboteurs instead of helpless Nigerians.
  • Proper and adequate funding of education and health care at all levels.
  • Adequate provision for social security for the aged and the vulnerable.
  • Finally, we call for the abandonment of IMF/World Bank policies as they bring extreme hardship.
