Grand Corruption In Police As 80,000 ‘Ghost’ Officers Uncovered By FG

The implementation of Nigerian government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has exposed a grand corruption in the Nigeria Police as over 80,115 ‘ghost officers’ have been uncovered in the Force.

The exposure found that as against the preexisting 371,800 police staff count, the Force could only account for 291,685, with 80,115 drawing salaries from its payroll as ghost workers.

Premium Times reports that data obtained from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation shows that the ghost workers have drawn salaries from the Federal Government’s coffers over the years.

The report revealed that Mrs Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of Finance, presented an updated report on the IPPIS at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting last Wednesday.

According to Adeosun, a total staff count across 511 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) was put at 607, 843, excluding the 291,685 captured from the Nigeria Police.

It was learnt that the police authorities have prior to the discovery resisted the capturing of its payroll into the IPPIS.

The IPPS capturing is said to have eliminated issues such as the delay and illegal deductions in salaries of police personnel.

Adeosun revealed that police officers are now being paid on or before 20th of every month as against when the IPPIS was not in place.
