Ighalo Misses Final Top 3 Contenders For CAF Player Of The Year Award

Super Eagles’ striker Odion Ighalo has missed out of the final shortlist for the 2019 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Player of the Year Award with three weeks to go to the grand finale of the annual Award.

On Sunday, CAF released the shortlist of the top three nominees for the player of the year award and awards for other categories.

Ighalo who was nominated in the last ten did not get the required votes from the eligible voters made up of CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of media experts.

The vote is also extended to a selected panel of CAF Legends, made up of former winners of the prestigious African Player of the Year award.

However, in the men’s category, Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Liverpool), Riyad Mahrez (Algeria & Manchester City) and Sadio Mane (Senegal & Liverpool) all made it through to the last three.

Similarly, the award winners for each category will be announced during the CAF Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 7 January 2020, at the Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, Egypt.
