Italy Celebrates 75th Anniversary Of Liberation At Home

The nation of Italy, on Saturday, marked the 75th anniversary of its liberation from Nazi German occupation during World War 2.

However, unlike in previous years, citizens had to celebrate from their homes by waving the nation’s flag.

This may not be unconnected with the Coronavirus pandemic that forced the nation to embark on a lockdown since March 9.

More than 25,000 people have died from covid-19 in the country.

On his part, the Italian Defence Minister Lorenzo Guerin urged the people to do away with the pains of the past and embrace unity and solidarity.

British Broadcasting Corporation reports that Italians did not join mass gatherings as they normally would.

And that , they’ve been waving flags from their windows and singing a resistance song.

BBC reports that in Rome, the Italian Air Force’s aerobatics team conducted a flypast.
