Kaduna, Abuja, Kogi Tops In Road Accidents, Fatalities In 2015

A report the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has placed Kaduna state, Federal Capital Territory and Kogi state as the most dangerous cities in terms of road accidents and fatalities in 2015.

The report which was released recently in Abuja showed that Kaduna State had the highest number of road traffic deaths with 474 confirmed cases, followed by the FCT with 328 deaths with Kogi State in third with a total of 310 losses.

According to the FRSC report, an average of 15 people died daily in road accidents across Nigeria in 2015, with 5,440 Nigerians losing their lives in 2015.

However, there was a marked reduction of 1,010 from the 6,450 in 2013.

The report also found that a total of 30,478 Nigerians sustained varied degrees of injury, marking an improvement of 9,579 over the 40,057 recorded in 2013.

Speaking on the report, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, identified improved training and equipment of traffic officers across the country for the improvement.

He expressed optimism that the speed-limiting devices billed to come into effect by October 1 this year in commercial vehicles would drastically reduce crashes on Nigerian roads.

A breakdown of the statistics show that Borno, Taraba and Bayelsa States recorded the least number of deaths with 2, 14 and 16, respectively.
