MASSOB Calls Nigeria ‘Dead State,’ Supports Yoruba Secession

Ahead of Nigeria’s Independence celebration, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Sunday, stated that Nigeria is ‘a dead state which has nothing to celebrate’.

The group stated this in a statement signed by its leader, Uchenna Madu, which was made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu.

Madu regretted that at sixty, Nigeria was ‘still crumbling to stand up’, adding that other nations that got political independence with Nigeria at the same period, like Malaysia, had gone very far in global recognition.

According to the statement, “Though the British colonial masters did not design Nigeria to flourish and progress as a reputable entity, the islamist minority Fulani tribe that the Christian Queen Elizabeth II handed Nigeria as their caretaker has taken the property (Nigeria) of their political master too backward.

“Under President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian state has turned to a Fulani empire where other major and minor ethnic nationalities are not regarded. Fulanis acknowledge their cows more than other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.”

Madu, who commended the agitation for the sovereign Oduduwa nation in the Southwest region, said mutual coordination among the Yoruba groups would lead to a successful achievement of their objectives.

In his words, “MASSOB salute the tenacity and brotherly coordination among the over hundred Yoruba groups agitating for the actualization of the Oduduwa nation from Nigeria. Mutual coordination and respect among the Yoruba’s self-determination groups under a collegiate leadership are the single weapon of successful agitation.”

On the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Southeast on October 1, MASSOB said it was dead on arrival.

According to the group, “Traditionally, every first day of October is Nigeria’s public holiday. Her civil servants and public office-holders observe a holiday, and governments are usually shut down in commemorating her independence anniversary. Even the state government closes markets, schools and other government-controlled establishments, including banks and corporate establishments. Nigeria has already declared October 1st as her sit-at-home exercise for remembrance of her independence anniversary. Any other directives compelling or aimed to compel the people of Biafra to officially observe a compulsory sit at home irrespective of any reason given on 1st October are consciously and voluntarily working for the dead Nigeria.

“Any exercise that will derail the organised protest strike against the incessant increase of fuel prices and electric bills by the Nigeria Labour Union, Trade Union, Civil Society Organisations, etc is working against the overall interest of the citizens. 1st October, 2020 is a day of national protest against the insensitivity of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“Biafra’s sit-at-home exercise is not significant on Nigeria’s special day. Whatever exercise Biafrans observe on October 1st will be viewed as supporting the dead Nigeria. May 30th is Biafra day anniversary.”
