Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel and forward, Ahmed Musa will miss the upcoming international friendly matches between Mali and Luxembourg to attend the Joseph Yobo Testimonial. The Nigeria Football Federation has announced.

“The NFF leadership has decided that Mikel and Musa should be excused from the two friendly matches in Europe so that they can honour Joseph Yobo, who is having his testimonial game on the same Friday, 27th May that we are playing Mali in Rouen, France.

The two players have been communicated accordingly,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

Former Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike lashed out at the NFF for choosing the same date for a friendly game with a testimonial match for Yobo who has made 100 appearances for the team.

According to Emenike, it is disrespectful as it is not a good precedent for younger players who want to serve their country.

Joseph Yobo, would hold his testimonial game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on May 27, same day the Eagles take on Mali in Rouen, France.

He has invited several international as well as Super Eagles’ players for the occasion.

Speaking recently to Goal, the 35-year-old said he is overwhelmed by the positive responses he is getting from invited players as he has been in Europe visiting former teammates and friends.

“It has been amazing. Almost everybody wants to come and play,” he said. “My only regret is that I can’t invite everybody.”

Nigeria will play Mali in Rouen on 27th May and then take on Luxembourg in Luxembourg on 1st June.
