Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe on Monday was presented a motor-controlled wheelchair by members of his cabinet as a belated birthday gift.

The APA reports that the 93-year-old leader got the “mobile chair” from his ministers during a ceremony held at State House in Harare yesterday.

According to the ministers, the wheelchair is meant to make it easy for Mugabe to “navigate his way around the office and at home.”

They also included a pen and a wristwatch made from 9-carat gold to their belated 93rd birthday gifts to President Mugabe.

Africa’s oldest leader has found it difficult to walk lately, which has become embarrassing to the entire country.

This comes barely a month after First Lady Grace Mugabe stated publicly that her husband will run for president of the country again “even from the grave”.

The gift however sparked concerns from several corners after the country’s popular ZBC radio initially said the President had been given what they called a mobile chair.

But the ZBC later corrected its story, saying that the gift was in fact a massage chair.
