N500m Compensation: Wife Of Deceased Vendor Says Husband’s Family Never Consulted Her

Josephine, the wife of the deceased newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, who was allegedly killed by an official of the Department of State Services (DSS) assigned to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has frowned on her husband’s family for requesting N500 million compensation without consulting her.

“I was in my house when, within 10 minutes, my father in-law came from Abia, he went out along with his other son and the next day I heard that my husband’s people are demanding N500 million as compensation.

“I was shocked and asked how will they be doing that and how will the speaker help the children again with such demand. All I want now is that the person that killed my husband to face justice,” she said during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the family of late Ifeanyi Okereke, had reportedly written to the Speaker to demand the said sum as compensation for their loss.

They pushed their demand through their lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN),on Monday.

Recall that the Speaker had personally visited the deceased’s wife and three-week-old baby at their residence on Sunday, promising to take care of her family.

According to Ozekhome, the deceased’s father, Okorie Okereke, and younger brother, Destiny Okereke, mandated him to write the letter to Gbajabiamila.

Our correspondent made effort to reach the family’s lawyer, Chief Ozekhome, but he was unreachable as of the time of filing this report.
