New FCT Police Commissioner Vows To Go After Kidnapers, Clamps Down On Unregistered Vehicles

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police (CP) Benneth Igweh and his tactical commanders are set to take the fight to criminals across the capital city.

CP Igweh revealed this while meeting with the leaders of the FCT Command’s tactical units and Heads of Departments on Saturday.

The police chief who assumed office on Friday tasked the senior officers to identify black spots and possible kidnappers’ den in the FCT.

He also asked the officers to take the fight to them.

During the meeting, the CP spoke on the need to revamp the existing security framework and set in motion the plan to ensure the safety of the city’s residents.

“The CP, while addressing the officers, urged them to embrace intelligence-led policing, visibility policing through constant stop and search duty in the fight against criminality,” a statement by the Command, signed by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh on Sunday said.

CP also emphasised the need to adopt effective community partnerships in the discharge of their duties, as he will have zero tolerance for laxity.

Also, he ordered a total clampdown of vehicles without number plates or with a single number plate plying the FCT roads.

“CP Benneth C. Igweh mni, reiterated his readiness to combat criminality in the Territory, as he called on residents to collaborate with the Police in the fight against crime and to avoid boarding vehicles along the road and unapproved parks.

“He urged residents to report suspicious activities through the following emergency lines; 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883; PCB: 09022222352,” the statement said.

The newly appointed CP, upon resumption, vowed to clean up the FCT from every dirt of criminalities that has ravaged the capital territory in the past eight months.

He urged criminals and their sponsors to flee the city or desist from all intentions and plans to perpetrate attacks.
