The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has alleged that its members constantly live in fear as officers of the Department of State Security have been arresting and harassing them.

This was according to the media and publicity officer of IPOB, Emma Powerful, who accused security agents of intimidating and detaining innocent “residents across cities of Biafra” without trial.

According to him, the situation has sparked fear among its members, with the location of those missing during clash with security operatives during the anniversary of the declaration of Biafra by Emeka Ojukwu on 30th May, remain unknown.

“Since the May 29 and 30, 2016 cold blooded massacre of our members and non-members inside the church at Nkpor in Anambra State, the DSS and other security agents have been going around and arresting anybody they suspect to be our members and dumping them in their detention cells without trial,” he said in a statement.

“The security agents are causing much harm and injuries on our people by going round the cities of Biafra land and arresting innocent people they believe to be members of IPOB.”

“We are still looking for so many of our members, who have been missing since the attack during the Biafra remembrance. We are appealing to the international community to do something about this.”

The Biafra Remembrance Day celebration is celebrated annually in honour of the Biafra fallen heroes and heroines who died during the Biafra/ Nigeria civil war of 1967 to 1970.

However, this year’s edition turned bloody with over 30 people reportedly killed and 50 others arrested as the military, police, IPOB members clashed
