Residents of Umudibia in Umualuaku in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo State woke up to terrifying gunshots as yet to be identified gunmen besieged the community.
According to sources, sporadic gunshots were heard as early as 5:30 on Wednesday morning putting the entire community in fear and terror.
In some audio messages monitored by THE WHISTLER, heavy and loud gunshots, and calls for help could be heard in the background.
Confirming the attack, the Imo State Police Command Spokesman, Henry Okoye said the Command is fully aware of the attack and has deployed its tactical unit in synergy with the Military and Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest the situation.
Okoye while condemning the attack revealed that the attackers are suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia group, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
He said, “We are fully aware of the situation, and the Command, in synergy with the military and the Department of State Services (DSS), has taken proactive steps to nip the security threats in the bud.

“Tactical units have been deployed to apprehend the suspected members of IPOB/ESN behind the senseless attacks aimed at instilling fear in the minds of the public.
“We urge everyone to remain vigilant, be security conscious, and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.”
