PDP Governors Dump Sheriff, Go For Caretaker Committee

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention billed to hold this Saturday in Port Harcourt may be an anti-climax for Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and the National Working Committee as the governors of the party have decided to obey the court order stopping election into 18 offices of the party by settling for a caretaker committee.
The Whistler exclusively gathered that the 12 governors met all through the night at the Rivers State Government House where they resolved to obey the court order by telling Sheriff that he cannot continue in office as National Chairman.
A source at the meeting told The Whistler that the governor were resolved in salvaging the party and bringing all aggrieved members on one common platform, stressing that the 2015 general election was a bitter a lesson to them.

“It was a long night for us and as it stands, there is not going to be any election rather a caretaker committee. In short, the governors have dumped the National Chairman and the NWC. They resolved to obey the order of the Federal High Court Abuja.
“Sheriff already knows and in his place they have settled for Ahmed Makarfi, former Kaduna state governor, as the new acting national chairman pending the vacation of the court order.”
It will be recalled that Justice A. B. Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, barred the PDP from conducting elections into 18 national offices at the party’s national convention, slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Saturday.
Delivering a judgement in Chief Emeka Debia V. PDP, in suit number FCT/HC/CV/1443/2016, the judge stated that the tenure of the PDP national secretary and national auditor would expire by December, 2018, while the tenure of the remaining officers would expire on August 30, 2017, with the exception of the national financial secretary and chairman, whose offices were vacant.
