PDP: Why We Raised Nomination Fee For Governorship Aspirants

Ahead of the Governorship elections coming up in Kogi and Bayelsa states later in the year, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has increased its fee for nomination from N5 to N20 million.

The fees is exclusive of an extra N1 million for Expression of Interest form, bringing the total amount to N21 million.

Recall that before this new fee, the PDP governorship nomination form was sold for N5 million.

The PDP had yesterday, Thursday after its 86th National Executive Committee, NEC meeting disclosed that the hike in the fee is a result of rising costs of printing and logistics.

The spokesperson for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, told journalists that the proceeds from the sales of forms to aspirants will help the party to cover the cost of conducting free and fair primaries for contestants.

Ologbondiyan further noted that the party had set up an investigation panel to probe what happened at the National Assembly leadership elections where some members of the PDP allegedly voted against the party’s preferred candidates.

According to him, while the Sales/Return of Expression of Interest/Nomination Forms will take place from June 24 to July 24, primary elections in both states are billed for September 3.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had in May fixed November 16 as date for the governorship elections in both states.
