S/South APC Passes Vote Of Confidence On Buhari As Party Gives Oyegun Appointment

Amidst the heaps of security and economic challenges facing the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South chapter, has passed a vote of confidence on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The South-South APC, at a leadership meeting in Abuja, overlooked worsening insecurity and the fact that Nigeria had recently slipped into its worst recession in 33 years, to express confidence in Buhari’s policies and leadership style.

The party commended the president for doing “tremendous work…under very difficult circumstances” in a communique signed by Senator John Akpanudoedehe and Lucky Imasuen, a former deputy governor of Edo State.

The party’s decision to pass a vote of confidence on Buhari came less than one week after suspected Boko Haram members abducted more than 300 schoolboys from the Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

THE WHISTLER had reported how APC and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators blamed Buhari’s disregard for wise counsel as being responsible for the country’s worsening security challenges.

But at their meeting on Tuesday, the South-South APC leaders called on their members to “resist all attempts by the opposition to create division within our ranks.”

Senator Akpanudoedehe, who is the secretary of APC’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, said there was need to reposition the party to gain more grounds in the 2023 general elections.

“The APC has now become a party of choice for Nigerians… for a serving Governor, H.E. Dave Umahi of his own volition, without any pressure or persecution to move to another party on ideological grounds shows that the party in government is doing something right. So we, as leaders of the region have a duty to, not allow ourselves and our people to be left behind in the coming tsunami.

“We must resist all attempts by the opposition to create division within our ranks. We must come together as one unit, having a common purpose. That is why we are here, to create an opportunity like this for us to talk things over, reconcile our differences and resolve to work together for the interest of the party and our people. Going forward, dialogue, consultations, peaceful disposition and compromise should be the watch ward,” he said.

The South-South APC also appointed a former national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, to head a six-man committee set up to reconcile aggrieved members of the party in the region.

The committee has Lucky Imasuen as secretary and Sunny Jackson, Mrs. Maryam Ali, Sam Jaja, Senator Cleaver Ikisikpo and Emmanuel Nsan as members.
