Salah Scores As Liverpool Defeat Brentford 4-1 To Boost Title Hopes

Mohammed Salah marked his return to Liverpool with a goal and a sublime assist to help them to a 4-1 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Egyptian forward returned from a hamstring injury, which he sustained while on international duty with Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Liverpool’s injury problems were compounded when Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones limped off in the first half.

Darwin Nunez also could not resume for the second half due to injury.

He added his name on the score sheet with a close range finish in the 68th minute to make it 3-0.

Ivan Toney reduced the deficit for Brentford before Cody Gakpo put the icing on the cake for Liverpool to make it 4-1.

Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp provided an update on Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones injuries.

Klopp said, “We don’t know the extent yet obviously, but it doesn’t look good in the first moment.

We have to wait. It’s very rare, but sometimes you get a positive surprise when you get the diagnosis.

“It doesn’t look great for either of them.”

Klopp also hailed his players for their performance against Brentford.

He added, “But what the boys did after 15 minutes was exceptional against a team set up to annoy you.

“Eighteen times a set piece is flying into your box, you need bodies and luck in a moment and a goalie as well, who played an incredible game.

“We played a good game from a specific moment on. We controlled them as much as you can, and we are happy about that.”

Up next for Liverpool is a home clash against Luton Town on Wednesday.
